Rebuilding Rwanda

Rwanda’s people share a common history, language and religion, yet during the past century, ethnic divisions were fostered and entrenched with terrible consequences. The slaughter that occurred in Rwanda, 1994, was not a product of ancient tribalism or civil war. It was 100 days of genocide.

Today, Rwandans are working together to build a strong, stable and peaceful society for the future. We can learn from them. For the sake of the future, we should also learn from their past.

There can be few more rewarding ways to help Rwanda build a brighter future than by visiting the colourful hubbub, culture and nightlife of Kigali, the rolling mountains of the Virunga National Park, or the peaceful shores of Lake Kivu.

Africa is often dismissed as the home of bad news, but Rwanda today is quite the opposite; peaceful, stable and increasingly prosperous. It would be naive to think that the legacy of the genocide can be ignored, but optimism is never far away in a land this beautiful.
