Chief Prosecutor of the United Nations’ International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals calls on to the CNLG

On Friday 24th January 2020, Dr. Serge Brammertz, Chief Prosecutor of the United Nations’ International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals  and his delegation paid a courtesy call on the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for the Fight against Genocide (CNLG), Dr Jean-Damascène BIZIMANA.

Dr Brammertz said his visit was in the perspective of cooperation in matters of tracking fugitives of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi and sending them to trial.  

Their discussions focused on cooperation between the mechanism and the government of Rwanda in matters of early release for genocide convicts, and tracking genocide fugitives and sending them on trial among others.

 Both leaders agreed to maintain cooperation, especially in exchange of information on genocide fugitives.

 After the visit to the CNLG, Dr Brammertz and his delegation visited Ntarama genocide memorial site in Bugesera District.
