On Thursday 2nd September 2021, Alice Wairimu Nderitu, Special Adviser of the Secretary General of the United nations on the Prevention of Genocide , accompanied by the UN resident coordinator in Rwanda visited the National Commission for the Fight against Genocide (CNLG).
They were received by Dr Diogène Bideri, Principal legal Adviser at the CNLG. Their discussions focused on the missions, visions of the CNLG, activities it undertakes, the challenges it faces as well as providing her with advice that may help her office to accomplish the duties.
Concerning the challenges facing the CNLG, Dr Bideri explained that the biggest challenge is the increase of denial and minimization of the genocide against the Tutsi which manifests in across the world through researchers, academicians, journalists, lawyers and politicians among others.
Concerning advice to help her officer to fulfil the duties, Dr Bideri told her that it is important to put more efforts in activities of genocide prevention within countries and learn from Rwanda’s experience.
Mrs Alice Wairimu Nderitu is on visit in Rwanda from 28th August through 3rd September 2021 where she visits different sites including genocide memorial sites and different public and private institutions.
